Intern, Marketing/Public Relations

Seeking Applications for Summer 2024

The Marketing/Public Relations Internship will advance the presence of Madison-Morgan County’s brand image and reputation as a travel destination by providing support in the areas of marketing, public relations, social media, and advertising.  This multi-faceted position will build valuable skill sets in digital and social media marketing as well as professional communications. Opportunity to gain insight on and utilize up-to-date marketing, social media and branding techniques in the travel and hospitality industry.

Requires at least 1-day per week in office at the Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB), with opportunity to work remotely otherwise.

Responsibilities & details:

  • Assist in the development of content for digital marketing across social platforms, including Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest. Gain real-world experience implementing B2C marketing tactics.
  • Work in partnership with the Marketing Communications Specialist to create owned content, i.e. blogs, advertisements and website content, and other marketing or communications tasks as needed.
  • Learn how to edit WordPress websites. Provide updates for attraction, lodging and event listings on websites, i.e. Visit Madison, Explore Georgia and Georgia’s Lake Country.
  • Work alongside the Director and Marketing Communications Specialist to assist in the creation of marketing collateral, i.e. brochures, flyers, advertisements and website, and other marketing or communications tasks, as needed.
  • Greet visitors in a friendly and attentive manner, when needed.

Hours & compensation: 200 hours per semester, $500 stipend available upon completion.

Welcome Center Greeter (Information Specialist) – Part-time; 4-14 hours per week

The Madison Morgan County Convention and Visitors Bureau (MMCVB) is looking for a friendly, reliable individual to join our team and help showcase our community to visitors at the Welcome Center. This part-time position reports to the Madison Morgan County CVB Executive Director and is responsible as the first point of contact for visitors and residents. As such, this employee must always exhibit a professional and courteous demeanor and must remain current on all attractions and events as well as be able to share historic information of interest to our visitors. Training provided. This is a part-time position, working every other weekend and occasional weekdays.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Follow opening/closing checklist;
  • Stand up as people come through the door and greet everyone in a courteous and professional manner;
  • Answer the phone and general questions in a courteous and professional manner;
  • Maintain public areas including restrooms in a clean, orderly fashion and respond to emergency malfunctions as needed;
  • Maintain inventory of necessary supplies and materials for Welcome Center (brochures, toilet paper, paper towels, cleaning supplies, etc.) to ensure supplies do not run out;
  • Keep information resources stocked daily (brochures, maps, etc.) and in an orderly fashion; 
  • Fulfill requests for brochures as needed and process all outgoing mail;
  • Assist with event or business additions/updates and other admin tasks as needed;
  • Check email and respond accordingly; and
  • Other related duties, as assigned.

Compensation: $10.50 per hour

As an organization that represents the City of Madison and Morgan County, this employee must exhibit a high level of professionalism and maintain a courteous demeanor at all times. This position reports to the Executive Director.

Marketing Communications Assistant– Part-time; 30 hrs per week

The Madison Morgan County Convention and Visitors Bureau (MMCVB) is looking for a dynamic, creative, tech-savvy individual to join our team and help advance our vision of being a “must-visit” destination. MMCVB promotes economic development by inspiring tourists to come, stay and take part in the the local tourism economy.

Promoting Madison and Morgan County as a tourist destination includes supporting the ongoing development and execution of a marketing plan that advances the community’s image and reputation. Execution of the plan requires knowledge of the community along with creative thinking, marketing know-how, strong content creation skills and attention to detail to support all areas of marketing, from website copywriting and management to social media, advertising, sales support and being a passionate advocate for our community and local stakeholders. This position has the opportunity to participate in state, regional and local organizations focused on advancing tourism.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assists the Director in effectively executing the annual Marketing Plan and accomplishing set objectives; utilize task management tools including editorial calendar and Asana to stay on top of deadlines;
  • Composes, edits, and keeps current all VisitMadisonGAa.com website content, which includes managing accommodation, venue, attraction, retail/restaurant, event listings, itineraries and blogs;
  • Researches and writes social posts (Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest), signage and other promotional materials that showcase the unique aspects of Madison/Morgan County; basic design skills utilizing Canva and photography experience or interest a plus;
  • Supports public relations efforts by assisting the coordination of press or group trips and publicity tracking;
  • Assists with sales and distribution of annual destination guide;
  • Compiles monthly reports for board of directors, city, and county;
  • Assists Director with other various projects and administrative tasks, as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • College degree in Communications, Public Relations, Advertising, Marketing, Hospitality, or other related field; 
  • Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to write in a specific voice and style; 
  • Proven aptitude for quick, creative thinking with acute attention to detail; 
  • Self-starter with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks with demanding deadlines;
  • Computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and social media management; familiarity with WordPress and Elementor a plus; 
  • Graphic design (Canva) and basic Adobe Photoshop skills a plus; 
  • Flexibility – Some events may require your presence outside of regular work hours; Must be able to lift 20lbs (boxes of brochures). 

Compensation:

Up to $20 per hour, depending on experience. Simple IRA retirement plan, including 3% company match. Ability to work remotely with director approval, at least one day per week must be served on site.
