Shop, Sip & Stroll

Downtown Madison’s signature event – Shop, Sip and Stroll – is the perfect way to kick off the holiday season. This year enjoy special retail and restaurant promotions, live music and complimentary refreshments provided by many local shops Saturdays November 6th, 13th and 20th. Stroll Madison’s festively decorated streets, alive with the sounds of the season, as you browse independent boutiques, antique stores galore and get a stress-free head start on your holiday shopping. The last Saturday in November is Small Business Saturday and another great opportunity to #ShopSmall. Enjoy a welcoming and relaxed shopping experience to find that perfect gift, in stock and ready to wrap!

 

Discover One of Georgia's Largest Historic Districts

A favorite way to experience Madison’s holiday cheer is to get outside and wander the renowned Madison Historic District. Learn the stories of Madison’s wonderfully preserved buildings and the town’s rich history with the self-guided, audio walking tour. Your first stop is the Welcome Center, where you can discover local favorites from the friendly staff or pick up a free Destination Guide with a handy map of the walking tour. Take in the Christmas spirit at your own pace as you enjoy the mile-and-a-half stroll down Main Street to discover one of Georgia’s most beloved small towns and into the historic residential area where Madison’s elite built their elaborate mansions along oak lined streets. Here you’ll find stunning architecture and manicured gardens that haven’t changed much since their original construction in the 1800s.

Explore our favorite historic house museums – Heritage Hall, Rogers House and Rose Cottage – and find joy in the authentic holiday decorations of the 1850s, recreated by Madison’s local garden clubs. Take a guided tour led by Madisonians to discover the tales of these special homes and Christmases past.

Watch the Christmas Parade and Join Caroling by Candlelight

Ring in the holiday season in small-town style with Madison’s delightful Holiday Parade. Enjoy floats, vintage cars, horses, dogs, dancers and the award-winning MCHS Marching Bulldog Band, all marching to this year’s theme, “Merry, Merry Movies.” Following the parade, head over to Town Park for an evening of festive music and caroling. Choral groups, bands and local musicians will perform holiday carols certain to fill you with the holiday cheer. Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus and the Elves will be on hand to hear Christmas wishes. Warm up with a creamy cup of hot chocolate and enjoy toasty marshmallows roasted over an open flame.
