PORTER-FITZPATRICK HOUSE

Continuing down Main Street, it is hard to miss the Porter-Fitzpatrick home. Old Madisonians may refer to the home, built in 1852, as “The House of the Three Brides.” It was built for a bride, and the next two owners were also newly married couples. The original front of the house faced Old Post Road but when Monroe Street became Main Street, the columns were added across the back to make it the front. The house of the Georgia Wonder (at stop #10) was also reoriented to Main Street.
