There is a great music night coming up this Saturday at the Perk! Athens music Legend.....Michael Guthrie is doing a special "warm-up" performance just for Madison, in preparation for his upcoming music tour in Europe. In our intimate listening setting.....acoustic sets with a musical genius....what a treat!
The musical journey of Michael Guthrie began as a teenager in Europe....playing the music of the Beatles era in youth clubs, beer halls and festivals. Michael and his brother Herb arrived in the USA in 1966 playing this mixture of British beat, American Rock and Psychedelia as one of the South's first underground bands. The group evolved into THE MICHAEL GUTHRIE BAND....sharing shows with many of the biggest legends in Rock on such stages as the Cavern, Liverpool, Lon Don Marquee and countless USA festivals. The Michael Guthrie Band made their recording mark beginning in the 70s with such titles as DIRECT HITS, BANNED IN AMERICA, and RIGHT HONOURABLE FRIEND. They gained international respect, with ROLLING STONE calling them "one of the top 10 power pop bands of all time." Tragedy struck the band in 2009, with the loss of bassist son Jon, and later drummer brother Herb....ending the bloodline of the original band. Michael, now flying solo recorded an emotionally powerful LP, HERE TO ETERNITY. He continued writing and performing, with a large catalog of originals and songs of his generation. He continues now, with a story to tell a new generation of listeners.
We are privileged to have Michael on the Perk stage, just prior to leaving for a European tour with his music in March. We hope you will join us for a listening night of acoustic music and great food!
