Emissaries of Peace: 1762 Cherokee and British Delegations. This traveling exhibit, on loan from the Museum of the Cherokee Indian, presents the story of Lt. Henry Timberlake and Cherokee leader Ostenaco as they journeyed to each other’s countries in 1762, as Emissaries of Peace. The contrast between their cultures is shown in this exhibit. The exhibit is based on Timberlake’s Memoirs, along with period artwork, artifacts from archeology and historical collections, and other 18th century accounts.
